Why this blog? In a world where the planet's boundaries are constantly challenged, we face a crucial choice: continue as before or take steps toward a sustainable future. As a family of five embarking on a global sailing journey, we aim to explore and address the gap between our everyday choices and what’s best for nature, climate, and human health. We acknowledge that making the right choices for the environment is often challenging. Sometimes we lack the knowledge, and other times we may not want to make the sacrifices necessary. This journey is as much about our own learning and growth as it is about sharing insights with others. Last but not least, we will explore different countries, pristine and historical sites, and connect with diverse people from different cultures and backgrounds.
This map is hanging in out kitchen and it is only 4 weeks until we leave! We have left our job and the kids are preparing for homeschooling. We will sail until the funds run out, or we for some other reason decide that this life is not for us.
Our mission is to document and share sustainable practices, highlighting the connection between food choices and the environment. With a background working with different aspects of the food system I want to use this journey to go explore deeper and get a better understanding. Imagine a journey that not only takes us around the world but also through a discovery of various food systems and how they nourish both us and our planet. Food is deeply rooted in our culture, telling stories of who we are and where we come from. On this journey, we will delve into the cultural roots of the food we eat and discover how traditions can coexist with the need for sustainability. We aim to highlight the pros and cons of modern food industrialization and connect this to the latest research in the field. By incorporating the perspectives of both the younger generation and ourselves, we strive to inspire change and propose solutions.
We are planning to set a focus on ocean plastic pollution and participate in coral watch initiatives to monitor and protect marine ecosystems. We will use our expertise in advanced data analysis, environmental chemistry, and nutrition to seek knowledge and understanding. Incorporating our children's and the local populations perspectives.
We will do our best to minimize our environmental footprint with eco-friendly equipment and practices.
I'll admit, diving into this blog feels a bit daunting. Yet, I'm also convinced it'll be incredibly rewarding
